A New Beginning

Jerry Lane Studio is now...

Hey friends. I hope you're all safely over the Christmas and tackling your resolutions head-on. I have some news. As you may have gathered from the text & image above, I've changed the name of what I do & have established a new brand. Late last year I took my website down, I decided to take the time to reflect and figure out what I wanted from my future. To get specific with my plans and set in place the foundations for the days, months and years ahead. It's involved a lot of soul-searching, and a ton of confusion. In a blog post written before taking the site down, I wrote about embracing that which we fear the most:

I’m shaping my goals with an urgency and clarity that has evaded me for too long.
In doing all of this, in accepting my errors and focusing forward, I’ve realised the real values of failing. Of learning from those failures. I’ve learned that how you react to the experiences that befall you matters more than the events themselves. How you learn from them and move forward is the essential detail. Like jumping for that first wave after over a decade, sometimes the choices made won’t go as planned. You miss. But, in doing so, you learn and rediscover. Lessons that apply to moments past and what lies ahead.

I released a flurry of new products on a new service I hadn't tested adequately, and it cost me financially. My setup was user-hostile. I took it all down. Now, I'm back. I've focused on branding and numerous other facets of getting this going. I'm making a business plan, and I'm enjoying writing again for the first time in a long time. I'd like to think there's an inflection point for all of us in this life and feel as though I've hit mine.

What are the two greatest changes right now?

1. The name. As I stated at the beginning of this article, Jerry Lane Studio is now Wild Ocean Studio, with a capacity for more flexibility and more significant growth. Long term I want Wild Ocean Studio to be more than just me, to be more than one person creating and sharing their process and knowledge. The change won't happen overnight, but it's entirely feasible.

2. The design: it's fresh, and I like it. I hope you do too. Let me know in the comments. Oooh, speaking of which you can now comment on blog posts using Disqus - one of the most convenient ways to comment on tons of sites across the web. Simply create an account and log in using facebook/twitter/google, and you're good to go.

Please take a look around, let me know if you spot anything broken, and let me know your thoughts in general. I can't wait to publish way more content.

The next phase is adding more portfolio pieces to the site, working on some tutorials, some new blog posts, as well as guides and more. This really is a new beginning, and the foundations are just being poured.

What goals have you set for the new year? How are you doing with them?
