Adventures On Your Doorstep III

This week I spent a day visiting two dear friends in Cork, for a little catch up. It was a lovely time, the kind you become more and more grateful for the older you get. While there, we took a spin out to the Old Head of Kinsale. It reminded me of a recent trip to the Cliffs of Moher (blog post to come on that) where the cliffs just feel like they come out of nowhere as you drive out the road towards them. It's strange, but it kind of leaves you in awe of the scale of these places.

The Old Head of Kinsale is an awe-inspiring place. As we approached we were met by the sight of a rapidly thickening fog along the cliffs. Much to our disappointment, there's a golf club placed on the Old Head, which has been home to the Irish Open a number of times. Despite that, I felt disappointed that such a naturally beautiful space was only accessible for those who sought to play a game of golf. As you drive to the site you are greeted by the gates and the ruins of what looks like an old fort or castle, accompanied only by a sign telling you that access beyond that point is not permitted. Frustrating, to say the least. I often wonder why golf courses are able to get away with building in places that really should be open public access. Imagine a golf course up at the Cliffs of Moher?

Regardless, the views up at the Old Head are worth the visit if you find yourself nearby. It's a truly beautiful spot, and not to be missed. Hope you like the few images, i'll add more once I have the chance to get through the edits.
